Protecting Peatland Ecosystems and Addressing Threats in Southwestern Australia

PEAT Southwest is a transdisciplinary research project co-led by the University of Western Australia and Edith Cowan University and guided by Noongar Elders. It is a collaboration between academic and community-based scientists, managers, and volunteers, including the Undalup Association, the Department of Biodiversity, Conversation and Attractions, the Western Australian Museum, the Walpole-Nornalup National Park Association, Biologic Environmental, South West NRM and South Coast NRM.

Over five years (2023 – 2027), the project aims to greatly increase knowledge of the geodiversity, biodiversity and cultural significance of peatland ecosystems across southwestern Australia, while collaboratively designing future management approaches.
